SUMMARY:Special Lunch Conversation "Disruptive Technologies: Anticipating t
 he Next Wave"
DESCRIPTION:\nThe SCCIJ\, in collaboration with the Geneva Science and Dipl
omacy Anticipator (GESDA) and with the support of the Embassy of Switzerla
nd in Japan\, is pleased to invite members and guests to a special convers
ation on the technologies that could reshape business and society over the
next 5\, 10 and 25 years. Bringing together leading voices from Switzerla
nd\, Japan and the international scientific community\, the event will exp
lore three rapidly evolving fields – Quantum Technologies\, Longevity an
d Personalized Health – and ask a practical question: how can businesses
anticipate disruption rather than simply react to it?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScie
ntific breakthroughs are accelerating\, but their impact rarely arrives ov
ernight. Understanding what may be coming next - and when - is becoming in
creasingly important for business leaders navigating investment decisions\
, new markets\, technological transformation and long-term strategy. This
special SCCIJ event brings that future into focus.\n\n\n\nIn collaboration
with GESDA\, the Geneva-based organization working at the intersection of
science\, diplomacy and society\, the event will draw on the thinking beh
ind its Science Breakthrough Radar\, which anticipates scientific and tech
nological developments across more than 40 emerging fields over 5-\, 10- a
nd 25-year horizons.\n\n\n\nRather than focusing on technologies already d
ominating today's headlines\, the conversation will look ahead at three ar
eas with the potential to create significant disruption: Quantum Technolog
ies\, Longevity and Personalized Health.\n\n\n\nThe discussion will open w
ith Prof. Dr. Michael Hengartner\, President of the ETH Board and Chair of
GESDA's Academic Forum\, setting the scene for why anticipating scientifi
c breakthroughs matters for business and society.\n\n\n\nThree internation
ally recognized experts will then provide short perspectives on their resp
ective fields:\n\n\n\nQuantum Technologies: Dr. Alessandro Curioni\, IBM F
ellow\, Vice President of IBM Europe &amp\; Africa and Director of the IBM
Research Lab in Zurich\n\n\n\nLongevity: Prof. Dr. Hiroki Ueda\, Graduate
School of Medicine\, The University of Tokyo\n\n\n\nPersonalized Health:
Prof. Dr. Emmanouil Dermitzakis\, President\, Qatar Precision Health Insti
tute (QPHI)\n\n\n\nWhere could these technologies be in 5\, 10 or 25 years
? Which developments should businesses already be watching? And how can le
aders prepare for breakthroughs whose full impact may still be years away?
 \n\n\n\nJoin us for a forward-looking Swiss-Japanese conversation designed
not simply to discuss the future\, but to help anticipate it.\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:September 2026 Luncheon #2 “Luxury Japan: From the Rising Sun to
 the Rising Resort”
DESCRIPTION:\nJapan has long been one of the world’s most sophisticated a
nd influential luxury markets. Today\, fueled by a historically weak yen a
nd record-breaking inbound tourism\, the country has also emerged as a glo
bal luxury shopping destination. In this luncheon\, Mr. Davide Sesia\, Exe
cutive Vice President and Director of Sogo &amp\; Seibu Co.\, Ltd.\, will
explore how this transformation is reshaping Japan’s luxury sector and w
hy brands must look beyond the current tourism boom. Drawing on more than
30 years of leadership experience in Japan’s luxury and fashion industry
\, he will share insights into the evolving balance between international
visitors and the resilient domestic Japanese consumer\, and what it means
for the long-term strategies of luxury brands operating in Japan.\n\n\n\n\
n\n\n\nJapan’s luxury market is undergoing a remarkable transformation.
A historically weak yen\, record levels of inbound tourism\, and changing
consumer dynamics have turned destinations such as Ginza and Omotesando in
to global luxury shopping hubs\, helping Japan stand out as a growth marke
t at a time when the luxury sector has faced slower momentum elsewhere.\n\
n\n\nBut can this “shopping resort” model provide a sustainable founda
tion for long-term growth?\n\n\n\nInbound demand can be highly sensitive t
o currency fluctuations\, economic conditions\, and geopolitical developme
nts. At the same time\, rising prices and crowded boutiques risk distancin
g the sophisticated domestic consumers who have historically formed the fo
undation of Japan’s luxury market.\n\n\n\nDuring this luncheon\, Mr. Ses
ia\, will examine the opportunities and risks behind Japan’s current lux
ury boom and discuss why brands need to balance short-term inbound opportu
nities with long-term relationships with Japanese consumers. He will explo
re the shift from transactional retail toward relationship-driven strategi
es built around customer loyalty\, targeted CRM\, exclusive experiences\,
and strong brand equity.\n\n\n\nDrawing on more than three decades of expe
rience in Japan - including over 20 years as President of Prada Japan - Mr
. Sesia will provide an insider’s perspective on how Japan’s luxury co
nsumer and retail landscape have evolved\, and where they may be heading n
ext.\n\n\n\nWhether you are working in luxury and retail\, consumer goods\
, marketing\, tourism\, or simply interested in the evolution of the Japan
ese market\, this luncheon will offer valuable insights into how global br
ands can navigate one of the world’s most distinctive and strategically
 important luxury markets.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate:Tuesday\, September 29\, 202

evelopment\, import\, export\, and transfer of defense equipment and techn
ology.\n\n\n\nOver the past five years\, Japan has transformed its defense
policy more profoundly than at any point since the end of the Second Worl
d War. Defense spending is increasing significantly\, while the government
is fundamentally reassessing how these resources should be invested to st
rengthen national security and industrial capabilities.\n\n\n\nDuring this
luncheon\, Mr. Moss will explore what has changed\, what developments may
still lie ahead\, and what role Japan is likely to play in an increasingl
y multipolar world. He will also examine how these changes may influence J
apan's relationships with neighboring countries\, its traditional allies\,
and emerging partnerships - including NATO and the European Union - and d
iscuss the implications for foreign companies\, including Swiss businesses
\, seeking opportunities within Japan's evolving defense ecosystem.\n\n\n\

SUMMARY:July 2026 Luncheon “Good Ancestors: A Monk's Guide to Long-Term L
 eadership”
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for our July Luncheon with Shoukei Matsumoto\, Buddhi
st Monk\, Professor at Musashino University\, and member of the World Econ
omic Forum's Global Future Council on Responsible Leadership\, as he explo
res what it means to lead with a long-term perspective in an increasingly
fast-paced world. Drawing on Buddhist wisdom and contemporary leadership p
ractice\, Mr. Matsumoto invites participants to rethink success not only i
n terms of quarterly results\, but also through the lens of the legacy we
leave behind.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a business environment often defined by ur
gency\, growth\, and constant addition\, how can leaders cultivate the cla
rity to make decisions that stand the test of time? In this thought-provok
ing session\, Shoukei Matsumoto introduces the concept of becoming a "good
ancestor" - someone who acts today in ways that future generations may lo
ok back on with gratitude.\n\n\n\nDrawing from his experience as a Buddhis
t monk\, author\, and advisor on responsible leadership\, Mr. Matsumoto ex
plores how the practice of subtraction - letting go of what distracts\, ov
erwhelms\, or no longer serves a meaningful purpose - can enhance decision
-making\, support wellbeing\, and foster more sustainable leadership. By b
ridging ancient contemplative traditions with the realities of modern orga
nizations\, he offers practical insights into how individuals and business
es can navigate complexity with greater purpose and care.\n\n\n\nThis sess
ion will provide participants with a unique opportunity to reflect on lead
ership beyond immediate outcomes and consider how values such as responsib
ility\, intergenerational thinking\, and intentional action can shape stro
nger organizations and societies.\n\n\n\nAmple time will be reserved for d
iscussion\, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker and
explore how these ideas can be applied within their own professional and p
 ersonal contexts.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate:Wednesday\, July 8\, 2026Schedule:12

SUMMARY:April 2026 Luncheon "AI as a Scientist: Creating the WARP-drive for
  Scientific Discovery"
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for our April Luncheon with Dr. Hiroaki Kitano\, Pres
ident &amp\; CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories\, as he explores a
fundamental shift in innovation: the rise of AI as a scientist. Drawing on
his work at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST)\, Dr.
Kitano will share a forward-looking perspective on AI-driven research and
its implications for business. What once took years may soon take weeks. T
his session offers key insights for organizations looking to stay ahead in
a rapidly changing innovation landscape.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA fundamental shi
ft is underway that may alter the future of our civilization. AI is rapidl
y emerging as a highly autonomous system to carry out scientific discovery
.&nbsp\; AI is not just a tool for scientists\, but AI has become the Scie
ntist. This talk will present where we stand now and envision the future o
f AI-driven scientific discovery and their implications for our society.\n
\n\n\nHiroaki Kitano\, President &amp\; CEO of Sony Computer Science Labor
atories\, has spent his career at the intersection of artificial intellige
nce and scientific discovery. At his laboratory at the Okinawa Institute o
f Science and Technology (OIST)\, he is already building it — robot-oper
ated labs where AI systems autonomously generate hypotheses\, design and r
un experiments\, and interpret results around the clock\, with no human ha
nd required. In this talk\, he offers business leaders a clear-eyed view o
f how this transformation will reshape the economics of innovation across
industries.\n\n\n\nWhat took a research team years may soon take weeks. Th
e implications for R&amp\;D investment\, talent strategy\, and industry pa
rtnerships are profound. This is a conversation about where the next wave
of industrial value will be created - and what forward-looking organizatio
ns can do today to be part of it.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate:Wednesday\, April 22
