August 2024 Luncheon: “Insights from the Swiss National Bank”
August 21, 2024
12:00 - 14:00

We are pleased to invite you to our August Luncheon with Mr. Antoine Martin and Mr. Thomas Moser, respectively Member and Alternate Member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, who will use the opportunity of their official visit to Tokyo to share insights with the members of our business community.

August 2024 Luncheon: “Insights from the Swiss National Bank”

The SCCIJ is delighted to welcome officials from the Swiss National Bank (SNB) for its August Luncheon. Following their previous visit to Japan in October 2022, the delegation will now discuss two important topics:

"Recent Economic Developments and Monetary Policy Decisions by Swiss National Bank"

Mr. Antoine Martin, Member of the Governing Board, will provide an overview of recent economic developments in Switzerland and around the world, and he will also discuss the recent monetary policy decisions taken by the Swiss National Bank. At the SNB’s most recent two quarterly monetary policy assessments, held in March and June 2024, the Governing Board reduced its policy rate by 25 basis points apiece. Antoine Martin’s presentation will highlight the factors that influence inflation in Switzerland and also explain the role of the Swiss Franc.

"Project Helvetia - SNB's Wholesale CBDC Project"

Mr. Thomas Moser, Alternate Member of the Governing Board, will talk about SNB’s wholesale central bank digital currency (wholesale CBDC) initiative. In the context of this initiative, labelled Project Helvetia, the SNB has been issuing wholesale CBDC as a settlement asset on the regulated SIX Digital Exchange (SDX) since the fall of 2023, utilizing distributed ledger technology. This allows digital (token-based) Swiss franc bond transactions to be settled directly in central bank money on SDX. With Project Helvetia, the SNB is playing a globally leading role in deploying wholesale CBDC in a live production environment.
